Example Workflow 1: exploring hallmarks from Fig 7D

  1. Navigate to the Interactive graphical abstract
  2. Click on the hallmark of interest, e.g. “Neutrophils COVID severity”, and you will be taken to a new page to explore these features
  3. Clicking the feature of interest from within the panel will plot individual markers (e.g. expression of single genes) on the right hand side
  4. Clicking another feature will add a new plot on the RHS
  5. Features comprising multiple markers, e.g. pathways will display a heatmap on the top left, which can be clicked in turn to display plots for individual features on the right hand side
  6. Additional hallmarks may be added for comparison using the “Load Data” button on the top left

Example Workflow 2: visualising single cell gene expression data

  1. Navigate to the data exploration page
  2. Click on the “visualise gene expression” button for single cell gene expression (CITE-seq)
  3. Paste in the gene(s) of interest
  4. A heatmap will be displayed, showing the expression of this gene set across all samples in a particular cell type (by default B.INT)
  5. By clicking on a node in the cell hierarchy dendrogram, you can change for which cell type data is shown
  6. Clicking on a gene name in the heatmap will give you a boxplot on the right showing expression in the selected cell type, and a heatmap showing expression across all available cell types
  7. You can change which comparator groups are shown across all plots by clicking on the “Source” barchart on the right
